Stunning vintage wedding gown in heavy winter white Duchesse satin. Made in 1944 or early 1945. Side zipper, sheer jewel neckline with beading, silk-wrapped buttons down the neck, very long full train with finger loops sewn in, long tapered sleeves.
The 100% silk duchesse satin is absolutely incredible. I don't think they make it any more like this. It's weighty, silky, soft, and feels like water in your hands. It makes the entire dress flow. And even that doesn't really convey how unbelievably beautiful it is. I really hate to suggest this, but even if you don't like the style of the dress, buy it anyway and have your seamstress re-make it into a look more to your liking, because you just don't find fabric this wonderful anywhere any more.
Or just buy it because it's... freaking gorgeous.
The photos make it look all shiny like it's made of charmeuse, but it is definitely NOT!
Approximate size: Professional seamstress estimates this lovely dress to be a small size 8. Could be tailored down to a smaller size. Can NOT be re-sized upward.
Condition: Overall, this dress is in glorious condition. The sleeve buttons (six on each side) are missing, easy to replace with either mother-of-pearl or satin-covered new buttons. Very small area of beading on the back needs repair, and there is a slight discoloration on the sheer fabric just to the left of this. There is also a very faint mark on the sleeve just above the buttons. (See photos for flaws.)

Research into the mens' uniforms reveals that the groom was likely newly-graduated from flight school, and this wedding probably took place very soon before he was assigned to a post overseas.
I don't know what happened to them, but for this one day, they look very happy.
